TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE |
INTRODUCTION |
In many companies , maintenance is regarded as a 'necessary evil' and very often the management does not place very much importance in this area . As a result , overall equipment performance is very low , with some achieving a capacity of only 45 % and below . Equipment life cycle cost are therefore high. Today , products have become more sophisticated and tolerances of the specifications are more stringent . Without effective maintenance's practices , equipment often break down unexpectedly . This will adversely affect production , quality cost and delivery . You may lose your customer overnight as a result . Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a combination of western maintenance practices ad the Japanese's Total Involvement Concept. TPM will help to improve productivity , reduce reject rate , ensure on-time delivery and flexibility. |
